Between desperate pessimism and satisfied optimism, the only reasonable attitude is voluntarism.

What we do?

Tangible and intangible patrimony

We value both tangible and intangible patrimony. We are involved with promotion of architecture, crafts and heritage of Ladakh.  A historical building, a piece of cloth from central Asia or a dying art is what interests us. We do not look at heritage as a piece of artefact to be preserved in the museum, but as a continuous moving chain of interlinked events, which we are a part of.

Tradition & innovation

We do not hesitate to introduce technology & innovation to traditional know-how and make it relevant for today. Our work is rooted in a study & critique of local building and craft practises of Ladakh from where context relevant patterns including processes and materials are applied and adapted to specific needs. The experimental & innovative approach thus completes traditional technologies.

Potential in abandoned resources

We identify potential in abandoned resources, we seek to maximise it to ensure an adaptive & pro-active use. An old site falling apart represents for us multiple opportunities; investigate on its history, and more importantly the stories of people around; question the purpose of conservation, offering alternatives to oblivion, sharing knowledge, experiment & awake scopes of action.

Cultural & social events

We actively take part and promote cultural and social events. We have organised exhibitions on heritage documentation, public exhibitions in Kargil, street art projects etc. We organise workshops for art, design and architecture students and professionals inviting them to come to Ladakh and work with us. We also plan to reach out to schools to promote heritage activation.
